Since his father passed away six years ago, Shimao Suzuki has taken over the family business, working diligently at their factory with his mother Aiko and a couple of employees. Though not wealthy, Shimao, Aiko, and Shimao's sister Mariko are satisfied with their life.
One day, Shimao draws a raffle at a local shopping mall and wins a trip for two to Hawaii. He takes his mother, and there he meets a beautiful girl, Kaori Shirakawa, and a young and brilliant entrepreneurial president of Frontier, an up-and-coming IT firm, Toru Takayanagi. Shimao immediately falls in love with Kaori, who has a friendly and warm personality.
Shimao and Aiko come home to find the factory in chaos. The accountant has embezzled the company's money, causing them to go bankrupt. Aiko develops a heart disease and is hospitalized. She needs a heart transplant, but the Suzukis can't afford the medical costs. Before Shimao can come up with a way to clear their debts, Aiko passes away. Shimao and Mariko can do nothing but cry. That's when Shimao remembers what Toru told him in Hawaii. "When you're in trouble, come to me." The following day, Shimao finds himself standing in front of the towering building where Frontier is based. What will be waiting for Shimao inside?

Impressive [Rating: 10/10]
Great acting by Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (SMAP), Tsunami Shinichi (Good Luck!!), Tanihara Shosuke (Gokusen 2), and other powerful casts, along with exceptional sound, camerawork, and a great story with one twist after another in second half of the series certainly makes this the best dorama of Spring '05.
"It's written Island's Shima, and Otoko", change in Shimao's character is excellently portrayed by Kusanagi Tsuyoshi.
This dorama is certainly a must see. |

Kusanagi Is PERFECT! [Rating: 9/10]
I loved this drama, it was funny and compelling all together!!!
The only thing that bothers me about the drama is when Tsuyoshi's character finally realizes what became of his personality, after being fired from the company. I mean that he does a great transaction of going from his kind self to mean and stiff, but then mean to depressed made the characters power drop. You don't see that being fired does make you lose everything, and the character realizes that AFTER he's fired...
Other than that, it's a wonderful story, I love it and would watch it again. I also love Crystal Kay's song for this drama, although it's coincident that the drama has the same title as the song... |

Good stuff [Rating: 8/10]
Great stuff, watch how "Island" changes from good to evil. Has a great cast, both male and female. No dreadful relationships. Internet company, everything feels fresh.
I really want to visit that bar: "hai - service" food n drinks for free! =D |

Enjoyable dorama [Rating: 8/10]
Not a fan of Kusanagi Tsuyoshi but I enjoyed Tsutsumi Shinichi
's acting. Overall, the show is watchable, with some good issues being mentioned, such as, to what extent will one go to be rich. And, the higher you climb, the harder you'll fall.
My only problem with this dorama is that Kusanagi's character's supposed fantastic IT programming skills seem incredibly ridiculous. But of cos, this is a dorama and everything is always sensationalised so I can't blame the writers and producers in overdoing his supposed amazing programming skills.
Oh yes, I also noticed a familiar caucasian face in this dorama. The actor who acted as a sports star in Last Christmas appears as a prolific opera singer here. Somehow, I couldn't quite picture him as this opera singer character cos i've already gotten a deep impression of him from Last Christmas.
I'm glad that the dorama has a happy ending for all although I felt that the ending looked kind of rushed. Otherwise, it's a watchable dorama. |
