*"Ballad" side of Gackt... 2008/06/30
Reviewer: duckie (UNITED STATES) 5
Gackt is not just a Rock singer... he has such a good vocal that you can really enjoy in this cd. I'm so happy that Gackt manages both Rock and Ballad so well! He is one amazing musician! I'm not disappointed by this cd at all! All songs are beautifully written and composed!

*Not One of Gackt's Best 2007/10/18
Reviewer: Laura Organa Solo (UNITED STATES) 2
"Love Letter" is definitely not a highlight in Gackt's career (although I wouldn't say it's his worst -- that ranking goes to "Seventh Night").

All of Gackt's previous albums (except "TSN") showcase an incredible variety of sounds and feelings. There's a little something for everyone from dramatic orchestrated rock to emotional ballads to hard rock to upbeat pop-rock and everything in between. They made Gackt impossible to pigeonhole as mere "J Pop."

Not so with "LL." It consists entirely of lovey-dovey acoustic sap. Half the songs run together in a bland mix of acoustic guitars and slow tempos.

Although some of them are still touching and it's hard for me to resist the bouncy fun of "Arittake."

Gackt's singing, although not at its best, is still skillful ("Seiippai" showcases his exceptional vocal range) and pretty to listen to ("Aitakute").

The fact remains, that LL lacks the punch Gackt's other albums. Over all, it is a let-down. I can appreciate pretty songs with lots of acoustic instruments ("Tsuki no Uta," "Freesia,") and sappy ballads ("Leeca," "Saikai~Story") but "Love Letter" is an overdose.

If you can only buy one Gackt album, get one of his other ones (except "TSN") first.

*Quite the Change 2007/05/06

On first listen, Love Letter is a one-trick pony: ballads, ballads, ballads. It's a huge departure from Gackt's previous albums and not necessarily appealing from the get-go. Ironically, it's one of his most technically proficient albums, with beautiful instrumental work and much more pure vocals.

The tracks are a mixed bag. Arittake no Ai de is one of my favorite of Gackt's songs, hands down. The LLV of Dears, however, makes my ears bleed. Most of the rest of the tracks are competent, but not particularly distinctive.

Hard-core Gackt fans will love this album for his voice alone, which is admittedly very strong here - if almost too strong for some of the tracks. (Peace, I'm looking at you.) Everyone else may want to consider just how much they like acoustic ballads over his usual pop/rock - or how much of a completist they are - before buying.

*Very Different. 2006/08/29
Reviewer: Amie (UNITED STATES) 5
This album is much different from Gackt's other albums because it is composed entirely of ballads. This is not a bad thing, however if you are not a fan, it may seem boring. It's very hard for me to pick favourites, but I especially enjoyed "Dears", "Kimi ni Aitakute" and "Peace".

*A rather niche album. 2006/05/29
Reviewer: Owleth (UNITED KINGDOM) 4
An interesting album, I was dubious at first due to it all being love songs, but if it is a genre you like it's worth investing in.
Although it could be considered a far cry from his earlier works, this album still shows a lot of the orchestral talent.
Etude, a track from his earlier days in Cains:Feel had a whole new more polished feel, which is a must hear for the hardcore Gackt fans.
My top three tracks on the album, in no particular order are: Kono Yoru Ga Owaru Mae Ni, Kimi Ni Aitakute and Sakura Sou.

Kono Yoru Ga Owaru Mae Ni features a rather Last Song esque start, buts moves to a much more stronger chorus which I felt worked well.

The use of piano focus in Kimi Ni Aitakute is a lot stronger than most of his works, which was a refreshing change.

Sakura Sou, albeit one of his shortest tracks, felt very different in tone, and somewhat haunting and eomtional way.

Overall, I think it is an interesting album, but earlier fans of Gackt will probably prefer Diabolos. If you want love songs, things to pull your heartstrings, then it's a good find!

*It speaks for itself 2006/05/03

It's a album full of love ballads from one of the sexiest artist to grace the j-pop scene. There's even an acoustic version of a song that appears on another album. It's defintely worth the buy. Especially, if you want to imagine that Gackt is singing to you.

*A true gift! 2006/04/28
Reviewer: iNDiGO (UNITED STATES) 5
Yes, it's another acoustic-heavy Gackt album. But it's his best of the two. Each and every song was written and composed with expert precision, as this album is Gackt's third gift to his adoring fans. The song Dears (an acoustic re-make of his MARS hit), is my personal favorite, as it represents his hard work and dedication to all of his Dears.

this is one of the greatest album I've ever listened to..all great ballads (especially Tea cup, Arittake no ai de, Kono yoru ga owaru mae ni, Kimi ni aitakute and Love Letter)..his best album after Rebirth I think.

Love Letter is composed of a bunch of incredibly beautiful ballads, unlike Gackt's other albums. It's a nice change and I highly recommend it; it's one of my favorites by him.

I have always been a fan of Gackt's music. His ability to write a song is not matched by any other artist of our time. This CD is wonderful. It's as if he fell into a lovey-dovey phase when he was writing this one. Be prepared for an album of mostly loving ballads, there is barely anything on this CD that even resembling j-rock. Every Gackt - no, music fan should own this one.
