Tony Leung Ka-Fai is Lin Chung, an overly-principled general of the Sung dynasty. Lin steadfastly refuses to betray the government to join the rebels of Liang mountain, even though he's been unjustly exiled by those he serves. The plot to ruin him has even worse consequences, but luckily Lin has wacky monk Ru Chi-Shen (Tsui Kam-Kong) on his side. With the help of his newfound "brother", Lin routs the bad guys and serves up justice in typically heroic style.
All Men are Brothers is based on a classic story that was previously made into a film courtesy of the Shaw Brothers. The film is told in an exceptionally broad style, alternating stark compositions with wide-angle hijinks. The overdone drama is hard to take seriously, but the fighting and flying people redeem all. Most fans of nineties HK Cinema hijinks won't be disappointed by this heroic wuxia. Tsui Kam-Kong was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his meaty role as the utterly righteous Ru Chi-Shen. Frenetic but fun. (Kozo 1996)
